$1.7 Million to Charity Since Assuming Leadership of Feast in 1996
Figli di San Gennaro has donated $111,000 from the 80th Annual Feast of San Gennaro (held September 13 – 23, 2007) to local charities, including neighborhood parishes, schools and other organizations that help the young, the poor and the needy, it was announced here today by Joseph Mattone, Sr., President of the not-for-profit local organization that has produced the annual Feast of San Gennaro in New York City’s historic Little Italy community since 1996. This brings the total of all donations made by Figli di San Gennaro to local charities to $1,7111,000 since it began producing the “feast of all feasts” in 1996.
“In addition to generating millions of dollars for the Big Apple’s local community every year, there is no doubt that New York City’s Feast of San Gennaro donates more dollars to worthy charities and aid organizations each year than any other public street fair in New York City,” Mr. Mattone said. “Our annual donations help support a good many religious and secular organizations that provide services and educational opportunities to youngsters on the Lower East Side as well as in other areas of New York City.”
This year Figli di San Gennaro presented charitable donations from the Feast of San Gennaro, totaling $111,000, to: Most Precious Blood Church (National Shrine of San Gennaro); St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral; Transfiguration School; St. Joseph’s School; St. James School; Our Lady of Pompeii School; Our Lady of Sorrows School; The Provincial; Variety. The Children’s Charity’; NYU Pediatric Division (HIV children); St. Ann’s Society; Our Lady of Loreto; Cooley’s Anemia Foundation; St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital; New York Foundling Hospital; and St. Andrews Roman Catholic Church.
The 80th Annual Feast of San Gennaro began on Thursday, September 13, and continued for 11 days through Sunday, September 23, 2007. More than 1-million people attended the Feast which honors the Patron Saint of Naples.
